Drama & Film

Through creative art education, the Drama & Film Department aims to cultivate global talent in Drama and Film who lead future changes. Our school was the first Korean high school of arts that established the Department of Drama & Film, and it has a history of nurturing leading talents in Korean theater and film during the last 50 years. Through systematic education and practice, The department cultivates moralistic, humane, creative talent that fit the rapidly changing world.

Curriculum

  • Understanding of Drama and Film

    This course aims to provide the right path to the concept of theater & film. By understanding the nature and effect of theater and film and studying underlying principles, this class helps to understand what peculiarities distinguish theater and film from other genres of art.

  • Acting

    Students break free from their conventions by experiencing their genuine, deep emotions on stage, which in the end allows them to obtain their style and feel the desire of expression.

  • Physical Training

    Students can grow into more natural actors by practicing physical expressions other than linguistic expressions.

  • Vocal

    Students obtain the fundamental knowledge in music through theory and practice. Students analyze and rehearse a repertoire of famous musicals, and present their performance of focal scenes.

  • Theater / Musical Making Training

    By understanding and experiencing all making process of theater and musical, students can obtain necessary skills required in the process of premaking, making, presentation, and joint review of theater / musical.

  • Movie making

    Through making their own movies, students can learn how a film is put together and how it is expressed by the producer.

  • Movie review/critique

    Students express their interpretation of a movie creatively by learning how to keenly review and critique a movie.

  • The history of Art

    This course aims to understand how one¡¯s era and ideology are expressed via visual media through studying the history of art, photography, and film.

  • Theory and creation of Film

    This course cultivates the ability to create a film by studying the theory of films.

  • Video production

    Students can get hands on experience on scenario analysis, acting direction, and camera work, which are essential to film directors.

  • Filmmaking

    Through making a short film, students can understand and practice the filmmaking system.

  • Film techniques

    Through this course, students can obtain skills in recording, lighting, audio, editing used in filmmaking.


Music

The Department of Music explores potential musical skills and develops creative expression skills through various music activities. The course cultivates professional musicians through discovering potential musical talents, developing skill base, and experiencing the stage. In this course, the students can enhance their competencies as a true artist and build creative expression techniques.

Curriculum

  • Music Theory

    This course teaches basic music terms and composition principles that become the foundation of music. Students can systemically understand the meaning of music and its structural characteristics. Also, they broaden their knowledge of music grammar, harmony, counterpoint, format, and instruments as the basis of their further musical creation and appreciation activities.

  • Music History

    This course teaches the history of Western music from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, by examining the music pieces and the documentation of each period. Students will aim to understand the basic flow of Western music as well as to grasp each era¡¯s characteristics reflected on its music, which will eventually enable them to use those understandings on their play.

  • Sight Singing · Music dictation

    This course trains the students to obtain not only the abilities that become the basis of musical activities such as sight singing and music dictation but also the abilities to analyze and play the music they listen. Through sight singing and music dictation, students can develop their first reading ability and expressing skills that will eventually improve their creativity in their play and music writing activities.

  • Performing

    This course allows the students to practice their postures, effective expression techniques, stage manners, and respectful manner to listen to others' performances. It provides an opportunity to experience various songs and a wide range of performances.

  • Ensemble

    This course provides the basis for the students to grow as a musician, through extensive music experience from studying symphony, overture, concerto, and chorus.

  • Major

    This class provides a one-to-one lesson to students where they can develop their competencies and musicality, according to each student's level. There are piano, organ, vocal, composing, orchestral music, percussion majors.


Dance

The Dance department aims to cultivate creative dancers through systematic theory and practice designed for each student. The department's objective is to foster creative dancers through systematic theories and practices as a goal and the department focuses on improving the performance of individual dancers by dividing the department into Korean traditional dance, ballet, modern dance, and dance sports. Through participating in performances and dance competitions, students can develop their competencies on the stage and the appreciation ability of art. The department also holds the presentation on a regular basis where students' creative works are presented.

Curriculum

  • Dance music

    This course promotes understanding of the concept, history, and types of dance music, as well as understanding the rhythmic analysis of dance movements. It also allows learning of the method to express oneself in music, in relation to space, rhythm and movement.

  • Choreography

    Based on the prior technical training, students learn how to create their own movements expressing themselves according to the topic given. This class provides a cornerstone for students to grow into a choreographer by augmenting the originality through accurately understanding the music itself as well as understanding the aesthetic quality of it.

  • Understanding of Dance Moves

    This course helps the students to recognize the concept, value, purpose, and form of dance moves through learning about the theories, which will teach the students the importance and artistry of dance.

  • Korean Traditional Dance

    Based on basic breathing and rhythm, students learn the Korean traditional dance moves and learn to utilize them to create their own dances. Also, together with lessons of percussion instruments such as small drums, drums, and janggu and individual coaching, the class cultivates the artistry in students so that they can express the beauty in the context of Korean traditional art.

  • Ballet

    This course aims to perfectly perform both basic and advanced ballet techniques through systematic and scientific ballet lessons. Students learn rich expression and beautiful art through a step-by-step training set up according to each student¡¯s learning ability. Through the study of techniques of modern ballet, contemporary ballet, and various other activities, motion composition and different ways of aesthetic body use are compared and learned. It also promotes the development of a high level of perfection and performance, and teaches the students to contribute as well rounded artists.

  • Contemporary Dance

    This course helps students to understand the principles and characteristics of basic contemporary dance movements and allows them to explore relevant subjects of this era. Students also learn to recognize their bodies and to explore new moves. Through the school¡¯s specialized teachings of bar work, floor work, standing work, center work, locomotion, the course aims to develop students' specialties and techniques and to coach students to develop their individual artwork with uniqueness and quality.

  • Dance Sport

    This course helps the students to understand the types of dance sports and learn basic principles and characteristics of each type. The class focuses on a wide range of theories and various practical training sessions, which aims to develop and direct the correct movements, artistic quality, and improvements in skills for sports events.


Arts

The Department of Arts aims to cultivate artist with integrated vision through theory and practical education that searches for creative activities. To cultivate talented students who work creatively according to the changes in the world of fine arts, the department of fine arts works to develop artistic expression skills, critical views, and upright characteristics of students. It works to provide an environment where students can practice and explore oriental painting, western painting, sculpture, or their own field of design so that students will grow into artists with integral views.

Curriculum

  • Drawing

    This course, through a formative analysis based on the observation of the target, allows various themes such as human body, nature, artificial body, daily life to be expressed in diverse expression techniques such as realistic reproduction, emphasis on contour, and emphasis of expression

  • Korean paintings

    This class combines modern methods with traditional theory of painting, and also seeks the modern ways to express Korean paintings along with succeeding the traditional art through various colorization and sculpture experiences

  • Western paintings

    This class fosters specialized workforce with a keen appreciation and practical ability by developing the ability to observe the objects and reproduce them in pictorial language expression ability based on free thinking and creativity.

  • Sculpture

    This course promotes understanding of basic elements of space and dimension, fosters artistic expression skills for multi dimensional thinking and creative expression skills, and provides a systematic and organized education on various materials with a theoretical and practical approach.

  • Design

    This course cultivates creative design leaders by developing students' visual, creative, emotional composition abilities as well as an understanding of principles of flat modeling. Such abilities are acquired through authentic drawing, emotional drawing, color theory and color practice and expression technique studies, as well as the study on materials and tools.

  • Theory of Fine Arts

    This course aims to improve one¡¯s ability to create a creative composition and to expand the knowledge of modern art through studying the meaning and diversity of art as well as learning the theory and expression of fine art as well as applying them to the actual expression.


Creative Writing

The Department of Creative Writing cultivates creative writers who understand the trend of global literature world and will lead the globalization of Korean literature. The department improves fundamental competencies for literature and seeks harmony of emotion and thinking through learning literary theory, understanding of contemporary and traditional literature expressions, idea making as well as sentence expressions. It also aims to foster writers who can lead the convergence of literature.

Curriculum

  • Theory of sentences

    This course aims to systematically understand and explore knowledge, principles, and methods of writing sentences. It works to ensure that accurate and distinctive expressions are the basis of creative writing, through practices in expressing and analyzing sentences.

  • Poetry Writing

    This course aims to develop creative ability to writing poetry by systematically understanding the basic theory of creating poem. It will increase the professionalism of poetry writing through the understanding of poetry writing techniques such as first draft, composition, expression, and refinement as well as practicing the expressions. Creative Novel Writing This course promotes creative novel writing skills through understanding the basic theory of novel writing. It also promotes professionalism in novel writing through understanding the novel writing techniques such as idea making, composition, expression, refinements as well as practicing the expressions.

  • Introduction to Literature

    This course works to establish the basis for literature appreciation and creative activities by systematically understanding the characteristics and structures of literature. Students obtain the knowledge necessary for appreciation and creation of literature and form the view of a creator by understanding the necessity, functions, characteristics of literature.

  • Classical literature

    This course develops the ability to understand the characteristics of classical literature, as well as to appreciate and criticize it. Students can cultivate creative writing skills by developing their appreciation ability and critique ability.

  • Contemporary literature

    This course aims to develop the ability to understand and criticize the characteristics of modern literature. Based on such critique and appreciation abilities on contemporary literature, students can enhance their creative writing skills.
